Matt Sorum has played for thousands. But on this night, he was playing for one guy: the high school music teacher who, decades earlier, told a 16-year-old drummer he had what it took to become a professional musician.
I had a big audience, but I played for him. I was playing for that guy.
Sorum hadn’t seen his former teacher since his wedding 13 years earlier. Then, suddenly, there he was in the audience, watching the kid he’d encouraged in high school standing onstage all these years later.
